Dr. M.Balamuralikrishna

Madhu muraliravam, a night of music event was held in Toronto during 2014.

Sri Balamuralikrishna is a legendary classical vocalist, multi instrumentalist, playback singer, composer and actor. He was awarded Padma vibushan, the second highest civilian honour in India for his contributions in the field of music and arts and Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French Government. He was born in 1930 and started giving performances from the age of six years. So far he has performed over 25,000 concerts. Apart from his mother tongue Telugu he works in Kannada, Sanskrit, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Bengali and Punjabi.


Toronto Sangeetha Utsav presents Gandharva Sandhya, a musical night by Dr.K.J.Yesudas(Dr.KJY). Dr Yesudas has held the Guinness Book of world records for the highest number of song recordings for the longest period from 1991 till 2011. We are celebrating over five decades of singing by the 'gana gandharvan' (celestial singer) in Toronto with an evening program on the 15th October, 2016.

Indian cinema is known for its music, songs and dances. Dr.KJY has won most number of national awards for the best male playback singer in India. He has sung songs in 27 languages including Arabic, Bengali, Hindi, Latin, Malay, Russian, Tamil etc. apart from his mother tongue, Malayalam. In a single day on 1st May, 2006 he has recorded sixteen film songs in four different languages. In 1987 he has requested the government not to consider him for any future awards in order to provide opportunities for the new generation singers. On 14th Nov 1999 UNESCO has presented him with a honorary award of "Outstanding Achievements in Music and Peace" at the 'Music for Peace' event in Paris. The list of awards and honors are quite exhaustive..

He started recording songs from 1961 and still going. Since then he became favorite of the elders, darling to the middle aged, craze among the youth and an idol for the teenage generation.

Pandit Kumar Bose

Pandit Kumar Bose is a legendary tabala maestro and an Indian music composer belonging to Benares Gharana style of playing. Born in 1953, he gave his first performance at the age of four. His first international performance was at the age of fourteen and since then performed at almost every famous music halls in the world. From 1984 to 1994 he was exclusive tabala accompanist to Pandit Ravi Shankar. Apart that he has performed with other internationally acclaimed artist like Zubin Mehta, Yehudi Menuhin, and Iranian thumba player Prof Semurani.

Pandit Bose's genius is his ability to evolve a distinctive style of his own without diluting the sanctity of tradition with which has been mesmerizing audiences all over the globe. His intricacies on the Bnayan (bass drum) has captured the hearts of both the young and veterans alike

Thiruvarur Bhakthavalsalam

Thiruvarur Bhakthavalsalam is a well know mridangam artist from a family of traditional musicians from the Tanjore district of Tamil Nadu in India. As a mridangist he has accompanied a range of talented musicians for over four decades. He had also performed at the Olympic music festival held in Barcelona in Spain in 1992 and the festival of Indian Music in U.S.S.R. in 1997, etc.


Jayadevan is a Toronto based Indian violinist performing both in traditional carnatic classical and western classical music. He has done many solo performance and also accompanied many acclaimed artists and played with them internationally for over two decades. He has been successful in identifying a place for himself in the realm of music and culture through his involvement and participation in local performances, developing young talents and by participating in many international events.

Salem Shriram

Salem Shriram is a US based vocalist who received many accolades for his performance in India and abroad. He has a purist approach to classical music, and sings with a high degree of classicism. He had also had the unique opportunity to perform in front of past Sangita Kalanidhis, including Dr. M. S. Subbulakshmi and Dr. Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, who have appreciated his music.

Rajee Gopaalakrishnan

Rajee Gopaalakrishnan is a professional vocalist based in Chennai, India and performs globally. A regular artist to Cleveland Thyagaraja festival since 1999, she also conducts workshop and performs in Toronto since 2001.

Anol Chatterjee

Anol Chaterjee is a prominent young vocalist from India. He is also a lyricist, composer who is equally able to perform in light classical music, Bengali semi-classical songs and devotional songs.

Tany Wells

Tany Wells is a London based vocal artist. She has studied Indian classical music and performed across the Indian sub-continent and world. She continues to draw upon her personal experiences in writing and performing songs that express a range of diverse cultural influences.
